Helvetiarockt is an official training partner of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture’s “Youth and Music” (J+M) program. Youth and Music is a national initiative supporting musical education for children and young people aged 0 to 25. For more information on current offerings, visit the J+M website.
Through this collaboration, we train musicians to become certified J+M instructors, enabling them to deliver high-quality, inclusive, and professional musical programs for children and youth.
As a certified J+M instructor, you can develop and lead your own J+M programs in partnership with Helvetiarockt. Certified instructors are authorized to organize J+M courses and camps and apply for federal funding.
Our J+M training is open to all gender identities, including cis men.
J+M Training Programmes at Helvetiarockt
As part of the J+M programme, Helvetiarockt offers practice-oriented, contemporary training with a focus on pop, rock and current music styles:
DJing
Beatmaking
Band workshops
Songwriting
The programmes combine musical practice with pedagogical expertise and are aimed at musicians who already work with young people or would like to do so in the future.
Requirements for the J+M Training Programme
The J+M training programme is open to professional and amateur musicians who:
are at least 18 years old
live in Switzerland or Liechtenstein (or hold Swiss/Liechtenstein citizenship or a cross-border commuter permit)
have solid musical skills (instrument, vocals or musical direction)
have experience working with groups of children and/or young people
are willing to further develop both professionally and personally
The required competencies must be documented in the application for admission.
Training & Certification
J+M Admission and Training Process
Before starting J+M training, you must apply for admission:
Create a personal J+M account and submit your application, including: CV, copies of diplomas or proof of education/training, a letter of motivation
Once approved (notification via email), you can enroll in the J+M Basic Module (online course) through the J+M portal.
The admission decision will also specify any additional required modules (Pedagogy or Music Module—exemptions may apply based on prior qualifications).
